Mira hurried toward the wooden pier that framed the small harbor. A bright kite, trimmed like a silver shark, bobbed behind her. She has already updated her entry for the annual kite carnival online. Yet the organizers accept only paper slips on event morning. The box that holds those slips waits on a table near the lighthouse. Her name still lies outside it. Seagulls wheel overhead while sunlight flickers over the gentle water. Footsteps echo along the planks, and the festival crowd ahead grows thicker with each meter.

The walkway was blocked by tourists who studied a long vendor list hung beside snack stalls. At the same time, a brisk wind tugged the kite string, tilting the shark shape toward the sky. Mira noticed an open alley that faced the water, but the line of people already filled it. She altered her plan. Extra string slipped through her fingers, and the kite rose higher until bright fins flashed above the crowd. A low roar followed; a vintage fighter plane from the scheduled air show streaked across the harbor. Heads lifted toward the sudden thunder, and shoulders drifted aside. Mira slipped through the gap, reached the table, and pressed her paper slip into the box. The kite drifted gently while the folded entry rested among others.
