Shell and Surprise- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Leo arrived at the beach with his bright red bucket. He wanted one large shell for his bedroom shelf. Several smaller shells already filled his pockets and clicked together. A calm morning breeze cooled his arms. He walked toward a shiny curve near the water line. A sudden wave rushed forward and soaked the sandy ground. The water pushed the big shell under his bucket. The bucket tipped, rolled, and knocked a tiny shovel aside. Wet sand splashed onto Leo’s shorts and surprised him.

He stayed calm and lifted the bucket with a gentle shake. A small hermit crab crawled out of the hidden shell. Leo jumped back, then laughed at the moving surprise. He could not keep that lively shell for his shelf. Brave, he placed it near the waves and watched it go. The creature slipped into the water and disappeared between several stones. Leo searched again and quickly found another empty shell nearby. He rinsed it, smiled, and dropped it into his bucket. Sunlight glimmered on the calm water as Leo walked home.

Leo 帶著亮紅色水桶來到海灘。他想找一顆大貝殼放在房間的架子上。他的口袋裡已經裝了好幾個小貝殼，互相輕碰出聲。清涼的晨風吹過他的手臂。他走向水邊一抹閃亮的弧形。突然，一個浪湧上來，浸濕了鬆軟的沙地。水把那顆大貝殼推到他的水桶下。水桶翻倒、滾動，又把一把小鏟子撞到一旁。濕沙濺到 Leo 的短褲上，讓他嚇了一跳。

他保持鎮定，輕輕搖起水桶。一隻小寄居蟹從藏著的貝殼裡爬了出來。Leo 向後跳了一步，隨即為這個會動的驚喜笑了。這顆活貝殼不能放到他的架子上。Leo 鼓起勇氣，把它放到浪邊，目送它爬走。小生物滑入水中，消失在幾塊石頭之間。Leo 繼續尋找，很快就在旁邊找到另一顆空貝殼。他用水洗淨，微笑著把它放進水桶。陽光在平靜的水面上閃耀，Leo 邁步回家。
