Evan In The Greenhouse-

English 原文
Evan bent inside the greenhouse just after six, droplets from a night shower still tapping the roof. Planting seeds along a narrow wooden bench counted for him as a quiet ceremony; each pocket of soil closed over like a tiny promise. A lark flitted through the open window, landing on a spade handle and scattering vermiculite across the floorboards. The sudden flutter knocked his elbow; one packet of lettuce seeds slipped, spilling half its contents. He had envisioned neat rows that morning, yet now grainy dots peppered every surface. Knees pressing the damp floor, he scooped them back, only to find the bag of soil had been left outside and now clumped like wet cake.
Resistance grew. When Evan tried to plant a seed in the first pot, the hardened soil refused the trowel, so he fetched warm water and worked it with slow circles. A second attempt jammed when the latch on the seed drawer stuck; rusted hinges squeaked until a sharp tug freed them. Meanwhile, soft footsteps paused beyond the frosted pane, but he focused on his task. If he had noticed the faint scent of frosting earlier, he would have sensed another plan unfolding. Colored twine had been draped across rafters in the adjacent shed during those minutes, and balloons were being quietly inflated.
The last packet finally entered fresh soil, and Evan stretched, wiping earth from his palms. He pushed the greenhouse door wide and stopped. The yard had transformed: strings of lights looped between trees, a cake glimmered on a table, and friends crouched behind straw bales. Confetti burst upward; the scene revealed a surprise party built around his evening ritual. Evan’s shoulders rose, then dropped in a silent laugh while flour dust floated like pollen in light from the porch. Music began, and he closed the door behind him so the warm air stayed inside. Colored lamps rested between the soil trays.
