English 原文
Lena stepped onto the iron-grate walkway above the grain cleaner in the Agricultural Heritage Hall, a long brick building on the quiet edge of the capital. Without visitors yet, the hall echoed softly; sunlight drew pale stripes across gears, belts, and the broad winnowing fan that once separated husk from wheat. Her goal this morning looked simple: send a small trial batch of oat hulls through the system so the first school group would find the machine ready. Engineers of earlier decades built every axle with generous risk tolerance, so everything still weighed far more than modern sketches required. Even so, decades of rest had glued dust to metal. Lena bent, wrapped both hands around the tall steel lever that opened the air chute, and pulled. Nothing shifted; only a dry clank replied. She blew away a curl of hair, rocked backward, and tried again. The lever trembled, refused, and stilled.
A rumble of footsteps rose behind her; the hall’s manager crossed the floor carrying two paper cones of roasted barley as a snack for the visitors outside. He raised an eyebrow at the silent machinery; Lena answered with a brief shrug and planted one boot against the platform rail. Metal complained; the lever jerked free, and a hidden valve snapped open. Compressed air rushed under the wooden casing; the wide winnowing fan spun, first lazily, then with youthful energy. The surprise came at once: a sack of decorative wooden tokens, stored on a shelf above for a later activity, caught the sudden draft. The thin disks lifted, looped through shafts of light, and tumbled across the hall like oversized autumn leaves. Children at the doorway broke into laughter; even the manager paused, barley forgotten, watching the bright swirl settle on exhibition benches, rafters, and hats. When the air finally calmed, the tokens rested in a wide circle around the quiet fan.
