English 原文
Felix stepped into the oldest wing of the campus library, where afternoon light slanted across warped floorboards. Warm oak scent drifted between shelves; faint chalk squeaked somewhere beyond a cracked window; stagnant air pressed like thick cloth against his arms. He aimed for the skylight room at the far end, certain a forgotten atlas waited there. Between him and that goal stretched a labyrinthine corridor, its ceiling lowered by sagging beams, its turns packed with trolleys left from past repairs. A slim gap left an opportunity for his shoulders to slip through. He exhaled, angled sideways, and edged forward, boots scraping until a cart wheel pinned his coat and forced him to pause.
He tugged free and reached the oak door, only to find the brass handle unmoving. The metal had been painted shut by some previous caretaker; pale flakes cracked under his thumb. He pressed harder, but the latch refused. If he had brought a taller ladder, the task would have ended sooner—he could have climbed through a high interior window—but the ladder stayed in the workshop downstairs. Felix scanned the hall and spotted a broom. He slid the wooden pole between knob and frame, leaning to gain leverage. The door groaned yet still held. Paint dust floated around him, turning the still corridor into a slow reverie of drifting specks.
A sudden creak behind announced a trolley rolling back under its own tilted weight. The shift jostled the broom, giving the handle a jerk, and the latch finally slipped. Inside, shelves curved beneath the glass roof; leather spines shimmered under trapped heat. One massive tome dominated a center table, its pages swollen with arcane knowledge of forgotten tides. Vines painted on the ceiling formed a living metaphor for the maze outside, curling over sun-bleached panels. Felix lifted the atlas, arms trembling after the effort, and set it inside his satchel. Dust hung in the sunlit aisle, while the newly found volume rested against Felix's steady palm.
