Two Boats at Noon-

English 原文
Theo balanced a palm-sized hull on the low stone rim of the park fountain. Painted stripes circled the wood in a neat nautical pattern, and a tiny mariner carved from cork waited behind the mast. Mira clipped a square of white cloth to the spar, then eased the craft into the rippling water. The breeze caught the sail at once; the boat set sail across the silver surface, its reflection sliding beneath like a second vessel.
A pump hidden under the tiles sent a mild current spiraling outward. The current nudged the toy toward three stone turtles that rose like islands near the center. Theo crouched, arms stretched, trying to navigate the narrow channel between their shells with a thin bamboo stick. The stick slipped, tapped a turtle, and the bow swung wide. Behind him, Mira unlatched a brass compass from her belt and placed it on the deck, thinking the weight might steady the craft. A sudden gust flipped the dial overboard; it splashed, flashed once in the sun, and sank beyond reach.
Ripples spread. The boat drifted in circles, mast tilting with every lap of water. Mira knelt, sleeve dipping into the fountain while she skimmed for metal with her fingers. Theo gripped the bamboo again and prodded beneath the hull. The toy lurched, its miniature rope caught the compass chain underwater, and both objects rose together in a swirl of bubbles. The chain tightened, slipped, then snagged the rudder; for a breath it looked as if the compass might drag the vessel under, yet the wind shifted, filling the sail and levering the weight upward.
The current slackened near the rim. Theo clasped the dripping hull as it coasted against the stone, and Mira lifted the reclaimed compass, water beading along its edge. She shook her sleeve, turned the dial upright, and let sunlight gleam across the glass. Water droplets rested on the tiny deck.
