English 原文
Eva and Mark leaned over a low studio table, aiming to hang a paper mobile from the ceiling beam. A stale glue smell clung to the room, while afternoon light slid across scattered beads and brushes. They had already trimmed bright shapes, yet the thin crossbar tilted every time they lifted it. Simultaneously, two threads slipped from Eva’s fingers, and the mobile spun like an uneven compass. She braced one knee on the stool; he steadied the beam. Their shared goal stayed clear: achieve perfect balance before the final bell.
Resistance grew. The first knot refused to tighten, so Mark unwound it and tried to synthesize two shorter strands with fresh glue, forming a thicker cord. The cord stiffened, but weight distribution still felt wrong. Eva grabbed a spare wire, curved it to fashion a tiny hook, and clipped it to one wing. The structure straightened for a moment, then sagged again. Behind them, a crimson designer scarf lay forgotten on a coat hook; Eva folded a strip from its fringe and tied it to the lighter side as a counterweight. The beam finally held level, yet a sudden breeze crept through the open window, twisting the mobile off-center once more.
They responded without words. Mark nudged the window half-closed, reducing the draft, while Eva shortened the highest thread by a finger’s width. The shapes steadied, each segment catching the late sun. Colors that had been hidden inside the folded paper flared outward, revealing patterns neither of them had planned. For a breath, they watched the accidental display, shoulders lowering with quiet relief. The hallway bell rang far away, but the studio remained calm. Colored shapes swayed above the empty stool.
