English 原文
Marco slid a dented barrel across the marina workshop floor, boots squeaking on damp wood. Aya kept pace beside him, shoulders angled to support a wooden crate that blocked their path to the emergency rack. Thin beams of radiant sunlight filtered through gaps in the sheet-metal wall, sparking against metal filings left from earlier repairs. A warning beacon had been installed above the door, yet it stayed silent. They had already arranged three oxygen canisters in a neat row; reaching the sealed life raft now was their only visible task before lunch. The barrel rolled too far, tapped the crate, and the crate tipped forward against a tall shelf. Tools began to tremble on the upper plank.
The wobbling crate struck the shelf harder than Marco expected, and a wrench slipped free, landing on an upright air tank. Its steel mouth hit a valve; a sharp hiss followed. Pressurized air pushed the tank sideways, and the heavy cylinder rammed a wheeled trolley. The trolley shot toward the water like a slow metal comet, knocking a stack of paint tins along the way. Aya’s knees buckled at the sudden noise, yet she sprang after the runaway chain. A mop stood in a bucket nearby; she thrust the wooden handle between the trolley and the pier railing. Wood groaned, metal scraped, and the trolley stopped centimetres short of the edge. The entire sequence felt remarkable, a silent show of linked forces.
Silence returned for half a breath, then the earlier jolt reached the emergency rack itself. The clasp on the bright orange container popped, and the folded life raft tumbled out, inflating in jerks as trapped gas escaped. Rubber sides bounced against ankles; Marco gripped the rope threaded along its rim. Controlling the raft proved crucial, because the half-filled tube slid off the deck and splashed into the harbour. For a moment both workers leaned over the edge; sweat cooled on their temples while the corrugated roof offered fragile sanctuary from the glaring sun. Loose air bubbled around the half-inflated tube as it drifted under the pier.
