Felix lifted his camera toward the bright metal mobile hanging in the open courtyard. He had waited until the noon light spread evenly over the floor. Playground sculptures filled this corner of the gallery. A painted seesaw stood near his shoes, balanced on a single bolt. An empty swing swayed gently beside it. Warm sunlight met the cool scent of drying varnish, and a distant tram rumbled beyond the glass wall. Felix stepped onto a low crate for a higher angle. The crate wobbled. Its edge scraped a round pebble that had been hiding under one plank. The pebble rolled away, picked up speed, and tapped the narrow board of the seesaw.

The tap lifted the far end of the daring seesaw sculpture. The raised plank nudged the loose chain of the swing. The seat swung forward and bumped a row of small canvases that leaned against a short metal rack. Each canvas toppled toward the next, turning the line into a painted domino run. Tiny flecks of color broke away and danced through the warm afternoon air and light. The final panel slid across the smooth stone. It headed for a stack of picture frames drying on a thick rubber mat. The mat bent and absorbed the slide, stopping the frames in place and breaking the motion. Felix froze, half crouched on the crate; nothing else shifted. Dust hung in the quiet space, drifting toward the floor. Far above, the metal mobile kept turning in slow circles beneath the skylight.
