English 原文
Morning light filled the small room.
Nell wanted her wide clay dish on the top shelf. She planned to carry it outside and watch the horizon. A long wooden chest blocked the shelf and looked heavy. She pressed her hands under one end and pushed upward. The chest refused to move even a single finger breadth. She blew air across her cheeks and paused.
Nell tapped the chest with her knuckles three quick times. A hollow thump answered, deeper than she expected. Her eyebrows lifted; she slid the lid a little sideways. Cool dusty air drifted out, light and dry like vacuum. The inside space felt almost empty except four thin boards. That hollowness meant the chest was lighter than it looked. She gripped both edges and raised the chest with effort. A forgotten hand vacuum leaned behind it and lost balance. The small machine rolled forward, hit a bucket, then a broom. The broom fell against the door, which swung fully open. Sunlight flooded the shelf, showing the clay dish at last. Nell lifted the dish and stepped toward the bright doorway. The plain clay showed honesty of simple work along its edge. From this spot she could see blue fields at the horizon. A loose broom bristle drifted across the floor behind her.
