The Bending Sheet- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light quietly filled the small storage shed. Wren came for a bag of grain today. The bag stood behind a tall plastic sheet. The sheet looked stiff like a wooden board. A damp smell rose from the cool floor. The low temperature made his breath small clouds.

He pushed the sheet with both hands. It did not move, and he stepped back. He tapped an edge and heard a soft wobble. He pressed again, this time near the middle. The center bent like rubber and sprang upward. Dust on the sheet formed a tiny plateau of gray. The air inside remained calm after the bounce. He folded the flexible sheet like a blanket. Space opened, and the grain bag rolled forward. The rolling bag bumped a broom against the wall. Some grain scattered and slid under the broom bristles. He laughed softly and lifted the bag onto his shoulder. Bristles fanned out over the floor beside his boots.

清晨的光線靜靜照進小小的儲物棚。溫倫今天來拿一袋穀粒。那袋子立在一塊高大的塑膠板後面。那塊板看起來和木板一樣僵硬。潮濕的氣味從涼涼的地板升起。低溫讓他的呼氣變成小朵白雲。

他用雙手推那塊板。板子沒有動，他退後一步。他敲了敲邊緣，聽到輕輕的晃聲。他再次用力，這次按在中間。板心像橡皮一樣彎起又彈回。板面上的灰塵堆成一個小小的平台。裡面的空氣在彈動後依舊平靜。他像摺毯子一樣把柔軟的板摺起。空間打開，穀袋向前滾動。滾動的袋子撞到牆邊的掃帚。一些穀粒散開，滑到掃帚毛下。他輕聲笑了，把袋子扛到肩上。掃帚的刷毛在他腳邊攤開。
