English 原文

Pearl's first chalk outline had already faded along the soaked lower panel; a cloudburst had swept through the yard after lunch, leaving damp blotches that turned green slate almost blue-grey. She stood in the shelter zone, toes at the board's wooden ledge, and lifted a pale stick toward the dry upper corner. The cool surface felt gritty against her fingers, so she loosened her grip and let the line drift like mist over a hill shape. Beyond the fence, dense foliage threw broken shadows onto the slate, and a squat boulder beside the pebble path caught silver light from an overcast sky. For a moment, only the quiet scrape of chalk and the soft hiss of drizzle filled the space.

An unexpected thud broke the rhythm. A stray soccer ball hurtled out of the foliage, bounced along the pebble path, and rammed the plastic supply box. The lid sprang open; several sticks rolled across damp ground, one long blue piece sliding toward the puddle near the boulder. Pearl darted after it, rain speckles spotting her sleeves as she stepped beyond the awning. By the time she scooped the chalk from the water and snapped the clasp shut, a fresh curtain of drizzle had swept under the shelter and streaked the lower section. The crisp outlines she had traced minutes earlier now blurred into pale smears that trickled toward the ledge.

She returned, examined the washed lines, and tilted the damp chalk on its broad side. Instead of erasing the damage, she widened each runny streak, turning the water-softened colour into a winding river that joined the dry hills above. Her strokes slowed, following the rhythm of droplets sliding down the board. When the drizzle eased, she stepped back. The patch that had started as a stain now curved like a faint blue-grey river across the dark green surface, mirrored in the wavering puddle at her shoes.
