English 原文
Dry chalk dust crept into June's nose the moment she hopped down the shallow step into grid square B4. The scent mixed with warm earth; she recognised the faint dent where her knee pads had pressed last session. Thin sunlight cut across the square, drawing a sharp line between brightness and pooled darkness. She unfolded her toolkit beside that line: flat trowel, soft brush, spray bottle. The chalk ridge she had left half-exposed still caught the glare, yet new hairline scratches crossed it, proof that slow entropy never paused. She brushed gently, and a robin on the boundary string tilted its head as if timing each stroke. The surface resisted; crust from yesterday’s heat had been baked firm.
June misted the stubborn patch, hoping the moisture would transform the chalk into something easier to shape. A clear bead rolled, reflecting the beam like a tiny mirror. Suddenly the canopy above snapped in the wind; a loose tie slapped against a pole. The educator at the pit rim pointed toward the flailing cloth. June climbed out, the robin fluttering away. Together they steadied the pole until the fabric settled. The delay lasted barely two minutes, but the sun shifted. When she stepped back down, deeper shadows filled the left side of her square, and the damp chalk had already dried in patchy islands. The simple spray had turned into an unexpected resource: darker spots mapped subtle curves that the earlier glare had hidden.
A twin arc now showed, one ridge echoing another under the mottled light. The pattern continued beneath a chip she had never questioned. She traced the outline with the narrow pick; the robin returned, landing on a peg where its form cut a neat silhouette against the glare. The chalk had been scratched thin along the edge, and tiny bone-grey flecks lay in the dust. June compared the arcs to the wall layers and saw a wider plate that had always rested there, only masked by brightness. She moved her brush sideways, slow and level, letting shadow guide the bristles. The robin blinked once, keeping still while she was reaching for a fresh burst from the spray bottle.
