Mist on the Firefly Jar-

English 原文
"Hold the jar steady."
Luke shifted his bare feet onto a warmer stone. Cleo crouched near the stepping stones, knees grazing damp grass as a faint green shimmer drifted among the jasmine stems. Their goal remained simple; they hoped to guide a single firefly into the perforated jar without startling the others dark. They had rinsed the jar earlier, and the cold water still cooled the glass like leftover lemonade. Warm breeze now wrapped Luke’s fingers, forcing moist air against that chill, and a cloudy stream rolled across the inner surface. By then, a thin film had been trapped between glass and night air, dimming the lawn beyond Luke’s elbow. The sudden mist blurred the insect’s glow, and a bead slid downward, dripping onto his wrist with surprising weight.
Cleo lifted the lid, hoping cooler air might clear the fog, yet the inside whitened even faster. Her next breath met the mouth of the jar; the quiet aspiration turned to vapor and thickened the cloudy veil. Luke’s fingers tightened around the slick glass, but a droplet escaped, streaking to the grass where a small slug flexed its body. That new cool patch persuaded the firefly to drift higher, its light pulsing with slow wonderment above their reach. Near the porch, Alma sorted metal trowels; noticing the struggle, she passed a warm cloth that Luke wrapped around the jar.
Heat seeped through the glass, the mist thinned, and the bright insect drifted back like a cautious kite toward the clearer opening. Cleo tapped the perforated lid closed, halting more warm air from pouring in and freezing the thermal dance before droplets formed again. Inside, the firefly’s glow rolled around the jar with quiet optimism, illuminating tiny droplets still sliding to the base. A frog beneath the rain barrel caught the new light on its wet back and pushed away from the cool stone. It sprang toward the ivy shadows, legs beating the grass in quick arcs that continued past the folding night.
