English 原文
“Did that stone just slide?” Nora tapped the uphill corner of the chequered blanket. The warm cloth sagged where a subtle ridge ran beneath it, and the small anchor-stone had edged sideways. Around her, an elegant lunch waited: stacked containers, a smooth thermos, and a narrow gift box wrapped in silver paper. Yves, kneeling at the centre flat, had arranged plates with steady rhythm, leaving wide gaps so every bowl could breathe. A lazy breeze only rippled the fabric; time between gusts felt generous, so the couple unpacked olives and fruit without hurry.
The next wind arrived sooner, rougher. The blanket belly lifted, rattling forks. A round container rolled downhill, bumped the pasta bowl, and its lid flipped. Spiral shapes slid across the cloth like tiny springs and dropped into the grass border. Yves lunged, but another gush snapped the basket lid shut; the serving spoon was now pinned inside by its clasp. Calm returned, yet calmer moments were shrinking: napkins fluttered after shorter pauses, and the middle zone kept narrowing under the restless fabric. They glanced at the crowded uphill edge; half the food still sat untouched, but daylight—only a week beyond the equinox—already pressed warm against the sandwiches. They chose to keep just those, tucking every lighter item back into the wicker before the next breath of air.
With space reduced, they sat close, sharing one plate. Fingers brushed crumbs from the cool shaded corner, and laughter puffed out with the breeze rather than against it. The spare containers lay sealed beside the basket, their flavours saved for another meal. A final gust passed; crumbs dotted the sunlit cloth while the wind moved on across the grass.
