Petal Against the Leaning Tower-

English 原文
Tamsin scooped a flat blue-grey stone from the waterline and walked across the crunching gravel toward an open patch. An empty lifeguard chair, bleached almost silver, leaned nearby, its rust marks a quiet reminiscence of crowded summer afternoons. She lowered the first stone onto a broad base rock, hoping the tiny groove would grip like dry paste. Wind from the river pressed against her shoulders, and small waves flashed steel light between the stones. The tower reached three layers when a sudden gust nudged the top piece; the whole stack tipped and clattered down. Several pebbles skipped outward, spraying cold droplets that darkened the sleeves of her blue jacket.
She gathered the fallen pieces, turning each one until a stable edge caught the faint grain of the upper surface. This time she crouched lower, breathing slow, so her arms could release the weight without any quick jerk. A narrow plank from a forgotten playground lay half-buried beside her foot, its once-bright paint reduced to dull, frost-white flakes. She balanced a fourth stone; the column trembled but held, as if the breeze paused to watch. Then a petal, pale as paper, drifted from upstream and landed on the wet top, announcing a gust behind it. The fresh wind shoved the column sideways; only the widened stance of her base stone saved the lower half from collapse. If the breeze grew stronger, the fragile contact points would slide like glass. She fanned her fingers around the middle stone, nudged its heavy end toward the chair's shadow, and stepped back. Three tiers still stood, tilted but connected in a thin line of pressure no wider than her thumb.
By evening, pale light slanted through high cloud cover, and wind had faded to a faint hiss over the water. The empty lifeguard chair, the playground plank, and the uneven tower remained exactly where afternoon had left them. Confetti dropped during a riverside ceremony earlier in the month had been wedged between two base stones, now motionless under frost-white dust. Spray had dried into tiny silver dots across the stack, and a single petal lay flat on the highest surface. Across the quiet bank, water reflected thin cobalt stripes, while the leaning column kept its fragile line against the dusk.
