English 原文
A brittle whir skimmed over the tilted drawing board, vibrating faintly against the metal clips holding the paper. The sound belonged to a bright damselfly that hovered above the wet wash like a tiny glass helicopter.
Ilsa bent her wrist, feeling the wooden brush handle swell slightly against her thumb from absorbed water. She drew a slow stroke through the wet zone, and pigment bloomed outward, meeting the drying boundary's silent march. Above the line, colour had already lightened, locking itself in place like gravel pressed into fresh cement. Yonder on the table, the rinse cup waited, but every reach toward it cost precious seconds of workable moisture.
The damselfly dipped lower, its wings tracing an airy overture before landing exactly on the gleaming wet corner. Its tiny feet left dimples, revealing that the surface held more water than Ilsa had guessed. She angled the board, trying to collect enough liquid at the base to carry a faint lavender cloud downward. One small drop slid, touching the lavender, yet the colour halted halfway and dried into a stubborn tide mark. She had already lifted the cup earlier, and a thin trail of blue water had been drawn across the palette. Now she tipped one more spoonful from the brush's ferrule, letting a second bead join the first unfinished ribbon. The beads met, flowed a finger's width farther, still leaving three centimeters of dry paper untouched. If the wash stayed open another minute, the lavender would travel downward without leaving hard borders. She inhaled sharply, shoulders tightening, and chose to risk a third attempt instead of switching to a thicker brush. She dipped the damselfly-marked corner into the rinse cup, lifting just enough milky water to form another offering. When that third droplet kissed the others, the wash suddenly united, a quiet reunion that swept lavender across the final edge. The damselfly sprang upward, and Ilsa watched pigment shimmer briefly on its legs before it zipped beyond the hedge. Minutes later, on a garden pond behind the porch, another damselfly traced circles above the water while Ilsa rinsed her brush again. She leaned forward and flicked a fresh line of colour toward the empty space it had left.
