Water Over the Jar-

English 原文
Light from four captured fireflies coated only the left side of the jar, the right side still transparent in the deepening dusk. Ivy held the cool glass in one damp palm, turning it so the silver lid waited upside-down against her wrist. Silas crouched at the flower-bed edge, his bare toes sinking into the cool, shadow-damp grass. He quietly tracked another tiny beacon that pulsed near a tall jasmine stem, gently arching above the mulch. Each careful attempt to cup the insect felt like a small twilight ceremony for them. They breathed slowly, quietly hoping not to frighten the fragile light into sudden dark silence. Dew slicked Ivy’s fingers, and the metal lid slid once, thudding against the stone step. The metal surface had been cooled by dew, and she dried it on her sleeve. She set it back, yet the narrow thread resisted every twist under the dimming light.
A metallic jolt rose from the garden-hose coil near the weathered stone lion beside the stepping-stone path. A loosened loop dropped and pressed the spray handle against the lion’s chest hard enough. The carving, shaped by a distant ancestor, offered no give to the unexpected water-lever push. A thin jet of water arched across the lawn, silver-blue under the porch light beam. The cold stream swept over Silas’s ankle and splashed the jar with startling force sideways. They dashed to the tap near the porch, water darkening the stones under their feet. Ivy had already twisted the valve tight when the parent on the porch offered a brief nod above a teacup. In the rush, she left the open jar on the warm flagstone beside her sandals. They spent only a minute pushing the hose back into place, yet evening had deepened while they worked.
When they returned, a bluish haze hid the stepping-stones’ edges across the lawn, and beads of mist clung to the jar’s inner wall, forming tiny silver ovals that twinkled. The earlier glow had vanished; the lid’s fall had let the four captives escape easily. A single new firefly hovered just above the rim, its rhythm slow like a faraway lighthouse. Silas balanced the lid on his knee while Ivy steadied the glass, their movements quiet and precise. Their quick creativity showed when they tilted the lid sideways over the blue-grey mouth edge. The insect drifted inside before they turned the thread only once so both could share the pale light. Finally, Ivy placed the jar beside the silent stone lion and eased her hand away.
