English 原文
Faint smudges of dawn had already brightened the window ledge when Harriet tilted a torn seed packet toward the glare. The window glass had been fogged by the night humidity, and every printed letter now hid behind paler streaks. Outside, an adult gardener watered rows of blooming flowers, the hose sending thin arcs that caught early sparkle. Harriet aimed to match these nameless seeds with the right tray before the weekend planting. She rubbed one tiny grain between her fingers, yet no scent rose through the warm, still air. Light pooled around her shoes, yet the herb-drying hook waited deeper in shadow, holding rosemary, thyme, and bunches with velvety petals. She stepped closer, shoulders tilting forward while dust motes floated through the glare like slow drifting snow.
As her sleeve brushed the hanging lavender, the bundle swung across the bright beam and scattered dull fragments into the air. The sudden sway startled a bumblebee dozing among the stems, and its graceful movements sliced straight toward the gleaming windowpane. Harriet jerked at the buzz, her knee bumping the sorting tray so thirty seeds rolled along the ledge in a wavering ribbon. Several dropped onto the cool stone floor where a small lizard basked inside a rectangle of angled light. The moving dots awakened the creature’s playful antics; it darted forward, nudged a leaning magnifying glass, and fled beneath the bench. The round lens slid a hand’s breadth, caught the full glare, and trembled at the edge of the wooden tray.
Harriet shoved a folded glove under the glass just before it tipped, and the wobble stilled against the fabric. She scooped the scattered seeds into her palm, counting in tens until every bright speck lay safely inside the tray again. Light rippled across the rescued lens, slowly bouncing thin reflections onto the ceiling beams and the hanging bundles. Through the open doorway, two sparrows continued their cheerful exchanges while they hopped along the sunlit rim of the rain barrel. A wingbeat later, the lizard paused under the bench, its tail twitching beside a final rolling seed. Outside the sill, the bee drifted through shimmering air, wings carrying it in a loose spiral toward the hedge.
