English 原文
A faint crust had formed around the neck of the yellow bottle before Ada even reached the kitchen table. The plastic cap sprang off with a pop, and syrupy paint rolled into the first empty well, sloshing against the walls. Newspaper beneath the tray crackled as she nudged it closer. Rafael’s lithe wrist beat a wooden stick against the rim in short clacks, marking time by sound alone. Their plan for the craft afternoon involved two linked tasks: create a bright green for leaf stamps and guard the untouched blue for a later sky wash. Ada lowered the supple stick, stirring the swirl in slow circles; the mixture answered with a hush like wet sand turning. A droplet escaped, landing on the paper with a soft splat and spreading outward.
She paused when a faint thunk rose from the wash cup: the used stirrer, stained by earlier red trials, had drifted against the glass side. Any crimson trace could dull the new blend. Moving quickly, Rafael grabbed a spare stick still clean and employed it as a scooper, carving a narrow channel through the blue well to lift a precise ribbon. The channel released a wet glurp, yet the needed blue folded into the mix, and the green brightened. Goal A achieved. The cost surfaced at once: the blue well lay shallower, its surface broken, tiny sluice sounds revealing bare plastic beneath. By then, the pure blue had been lowered to a shallow sheen. If more sky colour were required later, the reservoir might run dry.
An octagon test strip waited at the far end of the table. Ada carried the loaded stick across the newspaper; each touch left dull taps while stray drops pattered. The sample proved the green perfect, but the missing blue still mattered. She angled the tray, paper crinkling, and tilted until the remaining blue slid toward one corner; a gentle hiss travelled through the well. The level rose slightly, though green flecks now drifted inside—usable, yet no longer pure. Both sticks joined others in the stirring zone where light clatter faded into ordinary kitchen sounds. From the doorway, the family cat trotted past, its paws tapping the tiles. It flicked its tail once, sending a loose craft stick rolling in a slow spin.
