English 原文
"Top up the feeder tray."
Hazel rose from the warm bench, lifting the paper bag so its dry contents shifted with a grainy whisper. She hoped to attract the small greenfinch that had hovered earlier, yet bold pigeons already jostled for space on the platform. Pouring a thin arc of seed, she tried to eliminate obstacles by brushing away cracked husks clogging a corner ridge. As the fresh pile grew, wings clapped above, and three heavy birds landed, scattering lighter grains over the ground scatter zone. The shy greenfinch remained on a lower branch of the nearby tree, its head tilting but its claws unmoving.
Five minutes passed before the pigeons finally waddled away, leaving only empty husks and the thin hush of rustling leaves. Hazel sighed through her nose, then shook the torn bag gently to discard loose chaff that might blow onto the path edge. A bead of seed trickled from a split seam, and she chose to relinquish her tight grip, passing the bag to Felix. Felix shuffled three paces, knelt beside the ground scatter zone, and spread a secondary pile meant to occupy the returning pigeons. Their adjustment kept the main tray clear long enough for the greenfinch to flutter down, though its claws twitched with every footstep. A sudden reflection from a greenhouse window pane flashed across the platform, startling the bird just as its beak touched the seed.
Light shifted when a cloud edged over the sun, and that brief shade seemed to transform the scene into quieter, warmer tones. The greenfinch returned, wings trembling like a soft drum, and this time the platform was not possessed by larger, greedier visitors. Hazel held her breath, counting three deliberate pecks before a jogger’s sudden stride on the gravel forced every bird skyward again. Even so, the pigeons veered toward Felix's ground pile, giving the single greenfinch another shy chance that had been impossible earlier. The feeder tray that had been heaped with bright kernels now showed only a neat circle of cracked husks.
