"Trace the circle here," Dina whispered.

She pressed her index finger against the slick lower pane, watching a bead of water creep downward through the previous glossy mark. A round patch she had cleared earlier now looked like a tiny window, perfectly crisp amid the clouded surroundings. Moist heat from the radiator brushed her back, while rain tapped the outside glass with bursts that rose and fell. Beyond the clearing, car tyres hissed along wet pavement, the muted sound arriving through the clear line like distant waves. Drips formed at the top edge and slid over that patch, splitting its center with a wavering transparent stripe. Dina swiped horizontally to repair the break, yet the water smeared sideways and widened, blurring the neat circle further. She chose to wait it out for three slow breaths, hoping gravity would finish dripping before her next careful stroke.

Reaching for the reference sketch on the sill, Dina leaned back; when she faced the pane again, the stripe had grown. Instead of wiping everything away, she began tracing petals around the smear, letting the widened center reconcile with a bold design. A rough sunflower emerged; its clear core had been polished by earlier strokes while fog formed a soft grey halo. The accidental stripe became a stalk, and a smaller circle below turned into a guardian beetle outlined with curved strokes. She tapped the wooden frame twice, a silent vow marked by two faint thuds through the warm, wool-scented air. If the rain stopped later, the sunflower would fade, yet for now her fingertip drew another glossy line beside the beetle. A damp bead lingered at the petal’s tip as Dina set the cloth on the sill.

Steam from the forgotten tea rose again, edging along the lower pane and softening the beetle’s outline until its shell glimmered unevenly. Dina stood back, fingers lightly pruned, and watched the sunflower absorb new droplets that slid downward like tiny liquid seeds. A single bead reached the stalk, merged with the others, and left a darker trail that curved toward the wooden frame. Dina placed her fingertip beside that trail and pressed a final dot into the glass.

伸手去窗台拿參考素描時，黛娜身子往後一仰，再看窗面時那條水痕已經加長。她沒有全部擦掉，而是在污痕四周描出花瓣，讓擴大的中心與新的構圖「和解」。一朵粗糙向日葵浮現；清透的花心是先前反覆筆畫拋光而成，柔霧則圍成一圈灰暈。那條意外的直線成了花莖，下面的小圓圈則被她勾成一隻守護甲蟲。她輕敲木框兩下，當作無聲的誓言，悶悶的聲音在帶著羊毛味的暖空氣中擴散。如果雨稍後停下，這幅向日葵很快會消失，但此刻她的指尖又在甲蟲旁拉出新的亮線。當她把擦布放回窗台，一滴濕珠停在花瓣尖端閃亮不動。

被遺忘的熱茶再次冒出蒸氣，沿著下半窗格移動，把甲蟲外輪廓弄得微微發亮。黛娜退後一步，微皺的手指垂在身側，看著新的水滴像小小的種子向下滑進向日葵。單獨一顆水珠碰到花莖，與其他水滴合流，留下向木框彎去的深色痕跡。黛娜把手指點在那條痕跡旁，在玻璃上壓出最後一個小點。
