English 原文
A sharp, inky tang drifted from the pen cup, yet the first pen Keira picked scratched across the form without color. The missing line under her grandmother’s name needed only one signature, so why did the nib stay silent? She measured the blank space with her thumb, shook the pen, and tried a quick loop on the clipboard edge. A faint grey thread had been scratched across the line already, yet it broke and released only sharp alcohol smell. Dale, waiting beside the table with his own files, heard the scratch and held out a second pen. He slid his pen forward, saying it still wrote, though the sour ink odor from its cap told another story. Keira nodded, gripped it, and the barrel began to wobble as if the cartridge inside had loosened during transport. Still, she pressed the unsteady pen to the paper, hoping steady pressure would be the simple solution.
The line darkened halfway, then faded again, and both children leaned closer, noses catching dusty disinfectant rising from the table. Dale twisted his pen apart, using a paperclip for leverage, and a thin bead of ink clung to the loosened cartridge. Keira copied the motion with her pen, but she held the clip’s metal lip against the barrel a second longer. The extra moment let darker liquid pool at the tip, a tiny expression of practical wisdom rather than luck. When the draft from the entrance suddenly lifted a loose registration page, it skimmed across the form like a slow moth. Ink still wet, Keira pressed the fluttering sheet flat, and Dale steadied the clipboard so the margin would not slide. Together they signed the last curve, their two hands combining pressure and balance, and the signature finally appeared bold and even. A receptionist’s bell rang beyond the hallway, yet neither child moved immediately; blue ink still glistened where earlier strokes had scratched grooves. Two faint test spirals remained on the clipboard edge, drying to chalky grey beside the darker finished line.
