English 原文
Selene pressed a crease into the waxed paper, the line running from bow to stern like a thin path of copper light. Beside her on the warm stone ledge, a nearly empty paste pot rocked whenever a gust skimmed the stream. The goal stayed simple: seal the last rim before the paste dried. She had folded the waxed paper into a broad hull, and a thin coat had been brushed along three edges. Yara tilted the pot and scraped a pea-sized dab with two fingers; that smear covered half of the remaining side but stopped short of the corner. A second scrape gathered what clung to the inside wall; the thicker lump spread another ten centimetres, yet a narrow V of dry paper still gleamed. Selene coaxed out one final glossy thread—no more than a raindrop—and pinched it across the gap. The rim met water without a ripple, and the empty pot clicked against the ledge.
They knelt on the mossy launch step while other lantern-boats drifted past an aluminium-can recycler that chimed with each deposit. A poster about a river-cleaning initiative lay facedown on the grass, corners damp, but the sisters focused on their own craft. Selene lowered the boat; the LED flickered through the paper and its reflection gained sharp resolution on the darkening surface. The current lifted the hull, carried it toward mid-stream, and a slow list appeared—the thinner paste line confessed its truthfulness as water crept along the seam. The tilt sent the hull into the faster outer lane, aiming straight for the boulder bend. Yara slid a wide reed leaf onto the water ahead of the bow; the leaf’s softness, placed with quiet kindness, caught the prow and nudged it sideways into the inner eddy. The lantern circled once, then rode the slower swirl beneath rust-coloured reeds. Behind them, the paste pot sat drained and light, and downstream the glowing boat glided in a gentle loop beside the bending leaf.
