English 原文
Etta pressed the handles of a worn leather bellows. A quick puff lifted loose soil from the flat stone worktop. It fluttered over cracked shapes made last week. Cool air brushed her cheeks while wet earth clung to her palms. She scooped fresh mud into a tin pot and squeezed again. Bubbles rose, then burst with a soft whistle. A dry leaf drifted past, caught the next jet, and spun away.
Cyrus walked in carrying a bright paper pinwheel. The pinwheel billowed each time he swung his arm. Warm sunlight glimmered on the wet tin, and a light earthy smell drifted under it. He set it near the pot. A small gust from the bellows turned its blades once more. "Look at the bubbles," Cyrus said. Thicker mud blocked the reed spout, so the air refused to pass. Etta poked a narrow channel with a twig. The fresh opening let air evolve the heavy paste into softer foam. The plank shelf creaked under shifting weight and tipped a little.
The tilt sent an old metal badge sliding onto the ground. Dull brass still showed a tiny wrench. The children guessed it once belonged to a plumber. Neither child could know how long it had hidden behind the brick. The loose plank answered with another creak, as if to narrate its own relief. Empathy between their crouched forms took shape in their two heads nearly touching. They blew dust away in short, steady breaths. Etta pressed the badge into a fresh square of mud. Cyrus stamped a swirling pinwheel trace beside it. They stepped back while the marked slab caught sun. The twin impressions shone against the dark paste.
