English 原文
The worn wooden drawer handle rasped against Liora's palm as she braced her feet on the tiled floor. A mild ribbon of steam drifted from the kettle, clouding the window above the sink. She hoped to reach the cooling rack behind the drawer, yet the front panel refused to budge. Her first foolish tug produced only a dry scrape and sent fine dust skidding along the groove. She leaned closer, noticing sticky crumbs firmly wedged between the narrow wooden side rails. Each grain pressed like sandpaper, raising tiny ridges that gripped the wood. A muffled utterance of concern slipped through the back door, perhaps Beckett greeting the cat. The stubborn drawer answered with another sharp squeak that echoed against the metal pans.
She grabbed a cloth, folded it twice, and hoped it would soften the grip between wood and rail. The fabric rubbed the edges as she worked it into the gap and pressed, then she pulled again. The drawer moved half a finger's width, scraping loudly, then stopped; the cloth caught and held. Beckett stepped beside her, wiped flour from his sleeve, and raised an eyebrow. "Is it stuck there?" he said with a small laugh, keeping his hands clear of the drawer. Liora nodded and tried a sideways wiggle, but a hidden screw scraped the runner and stalled the movement. Outside, a faint utterance drifted through the herb patch; still no new space opened. She exhaled, easing sore fingers, and pushed the drawer flush once more. Faint scratches shone across the front panel, and the cooling rack remained out of reach.
