A thin wire line crossed above and carried pegs and one spare hanger. Her creativity showed in crossed sleeves and neat corners held under two pegs.

She placed each piece on the wire line in careful order as drops pinged. The cat nosed a damp corner and stepped back from the cool touch. Old luggage stood in the corner, with a small satchel on a low hook. Then the outside air shifted; the light dimmed behind a cloud, and the breeze weakened. The room felt wetter, and sleeves hung heavier and swung lower than before. One wide cuff brushed the satchel strap, and the strap slipped off the hook. The satchel tipped and fell softly onto the luggage, and its flap opened. A bright ribbon and a few wooden pegs slid out and touched the lid.

The cat jumped back, then placed both front paws on the luggage and pressed the ribbon. Nadine kept washing; her elbows lifted and lowered in the same slow rhythm. The light stayed dull, so drying slowed, and she spread each shirt a little wider. The cat tucked his paws under on the towel, while the ribbon lay under one paw.
