English 原文
Eli and Clara stood on the harbor walkway beside a low bench.
Water lifted the tied boats and pressed them back, while boards answered with knocks. The rail felt cool under Eli’s palm, and a spider filament brushed his wrist. Clara kept a glass jar on a tin tray, with a strip of clay. Eli pulled a square of paper from a canvas pouch and set it down. Wind touched the rigging; small rings clicked, and water made a slow slap below. Dark bands on the pilings showed old water lines from many seasons.
He pressed the clay into a thin ring, sealing the jar’s mouth with gentle turns. Its drag felt sticky against his fingers, so he eased his hand and lifted. The neat ridge motivated him, and he made a second, slimmer ring beside it. This time he smoothed it with the edge of the paper, which gave a faint squeak. He tore a small circle from the paper and laid it under the next ring. Cool glass met his thumbs, and the circle showed through like milk under clear water. Something rolled and tapped his shoe; a cork plug slid from under a folded canvas. Eli paused, then kept his palms on the jar, while Clara caught the plug. She set it in the tin and moved the tray’s lip, so nothing else could roll. Three pale rings now circled the glass, and damp clay marked a small moon on the bench. Water went on tapping under the boards as the lid pressed down over the tin.
