Mila Under the Striped Awning-

English 원문
Mila stepped under a striped awning shielding a stall packed with wooden frames. She hunted one tall canvas for a seaside mural waiting in her studio. She had already mixed blues and creams at dawn, yet the right surface remained missing. A pale rectangle leaned against a crate; rough edges suggested strength, and its weave caught late sunlight. A black price tag had been taped along the wooden frame, the ink smudged by humidity. Her fingertips traced the cloth; coarse threads prickled her skin while market voices drifted behind her. Beside her, the vendor folded newspapers, watching through drifting steam from a nearby tea cart.
Mila quoted a number; the vendor shook his head, crossing arms over a striped vest. Haggling unfolded like quick chess, every offer countered before breath cooled between the two competitors. The vendor pressed for a hard bargain, tapping the frame each time he spoke as though wood heard. Rain began, drumming softly on the awning, and a brief ceasefire spread between them while water raced gutterward. Mila used that pause to contemplate the weave again; droplets darkened tiny squares, sketching temporary islands. She raised her offer; the vendor lowered his, yet distance still stretched stubbornly between their open palms.
A sudden gust flipped one corner of the cloth, revealing faint colors hidden beneath the beige primer. Storm-grey shapes suggested cliffs, and a sweep of burnt orange hinted at dawn behind thin layers. If she had known what hid under the top layer, her opening offer might have doubled instantly. The vendor blinked, then shrugged, for the secret had been painted long before this morning ever mattered. Their final numbers met without words; coins clinked and the roll slid into Mila’s arms, damp but promising. She hurried toward the taxi rank, shoes splashing in puddles along cracked concrete. The rolled canvas rested across her knees, its damp edges curling slightly beside the taxi door.
