Mira and the Hissing Globe-

English 원문
Mira balanced a painted globe on a narrow wooden stand inside the bright gymnasium. The model had been built from recycled cardboard, glue, and scraps of wire. A thin tube slipped through its core to mimic the hot mantle that lay beneath real continents. At the base, a small cone waited for a tidy eruption later in the afternoon. A poster about energy cycles and sustainability rested beside her sneakers, still waiting for tape. Between checks she opened a battered novel, its corners bent from earlier study. The loudspeaker crackled, reminding exhibitors that visitors wandered only minutes away beneath the high ceiling.
She leaned forward and pushed the tube’s stubborn hand pump with both palms. Yet nothing moved, and the cloudy liquid inside the tube refused to stir at all. A second squeeze produced only a sluggish gurgle, and thin droplets splattered her sleeve. If she had remembered the spare washers, the seal would have held on the first try. Mira knelt, retightened each joint, and tried again, yet the cone stayed quiet. Meanwhile the carbon dioxide ice stored in a foam cooler had started to sublimate. White vapor leaked across the floorboards like low fog, drawing quick curious glances from nearby tables. The globe rocked when someone brushed past, and a loose gear clicked out of place.
Mira steadied the stand, slipped the novel beneath one uneven leg for support, and pumped once more. The repair still failed, but the shifting weight pressed the hidden gear back where it belonged. A sharp hiss followed, rolling into the echoing gymnasium, then a gentle pop. Colored water shot through the cone in a delayed eruption, rose nearly a hand’s length, and spilled into the catch tray. Vapor wrapped around the display; light from the skylight caught rainbow drops dancing over cardboard continents. Applause drifted closer from neighboring booths while her fingertips drummed steadily against the stand. The globe rested steady on the table, its painted oceans shining under noon light from the skylight.
