The Marble Chain- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Mila carried a small camera to the silent shoe factory. She wanted one clear photo of the old machines for school. Cousin Luis, an analyst, walked beside her and sketched notes. A fruit broker checked crates near the door and smiled. Dust floated in the wide hall, and metal pipes echoed every step. The camera strap was uncomfortable on her neck. She straightened her back, and her steps looked confident.

She stepped closer and lifted the camera toward a rusty machine. Her shoe slipped on a marble that rolled from an open box. The sudden slide tipped the box, and dozens of marbles spilled forward. The marbles bounced against a lever, and a conveyor belt started moving. Belts pulled old shoes along the track, kicking dust into bright columns. Mila jumped sideways, then laughed at the gentle chaos around her. Luis raised his notebook while marbles rolled past his heels. The belt slowed soon, and shoes rested in a neat row. Bright light filled the calm scene, so Mila pressed the camera button.

她走近一些，把相機對準一台生鏽機器。她的鞋踩到一顆從開口箱子滾出的彈珠而打滑。這突如其來的滑動撞倒了箱子，數十顆彈珠湧了出來。彈珠撞上把手，輸送帶於是開始運轉。皮帶把舊鞋沿軌道往前拉，揚起的塵埃透進亮光。Mila 立刻側身閃避，然後看著這溫和的混亂笑了。Luis 抬起筆記本，彈珠從他腳跟前滾過。皮帶很快慢下來，鞋子整齊地停在一排。明亮光線照滿這幅靜止畫面，Mila 按下了相機快門。
