English 원문
Milo arrived at the river-front fair just as a thousand colored bulbs blinked on above the stalls. The town had planned the evening as a grand celebration of light, yet his private goal stayed simple: carry home the blue dragon plush his sister had circled in last year’s flyer. He had already studied how players interact with the claw of the nearby arcade game, believing a steady wrist would be enough. When his turn came, the metal claw closed too early, and the toy slipped away while dull music echoed through the cabinet.
Undeterred, he crossed toward a ring-toss game booth where glass bottles crowded together like green soldiers. A cool breeze let loose a swirl of confetti, blurring his sight for a moment, and two rings clattered off the necks. If he had aimed a bit higher, the second ring would have settled perfectly. Milo glanced upward; strings of lanterns pulsed gently, mirroring his quick breaths. He remembered how the booth attendant had been handed fresh rings earlier, so he paid again and adjusted his grip, yet the next throw skimmed the target and landed among the sawdust.
Foot traffic thickened, and music from a distant stage mixed with sizzling food aromas. Milo had nearly emptied his pockets when a sudden blackout rolled across the fair; every bulb dimmed except the lantern strings, which glimmered faintly over the water. In that hush, the dragon plush inside the claw machine reflected the lantern glow, its plastic eyes catching silver highlights he had not noticed. The machines had been switched to free mode during the power dip, a safety feature he had never heard about. He pressed the glowing button once more; the claw descended slowly, steadied itself for the first time, and delivered the prize into his waiting hands. Rows of lanterns hovered over the river and their reflections rested on the dark water.
