A bright rubber ball rested beside old board games.

A simple plan formed in his head.

He would clean the ball and paint it golden.

That shine could impress everyone on Monday.

Milo wiped the surface with care near the open window.

A gust pushed the cloth and shook his wrist.

The wet ball slid away and hit the floor.

It began to bounce across stacked picture frames.

Frames toppled and knocked a hidden tin behind boxes.

The tin burst open, colorful marbles rolled over the rug.

One marble slipped into a cracked wooden panel.

A secret drawer popped forward and revealed a tiny compass.

The compass still turned smoothly after all those years.

Sudden adventure replaced his earlier idea at once.

The golden paint was no longer enough for him.

He slipped the compass into his pocket and shut the attic.

He carried the bouncing ball downstairs.
