Mira set her camera ready while midday light spread across the town square. Wooden stalls formed bright lines, and steam from pots drifted between them. She has visited this market every week, chasing a rare blue butterfly that sometimes drifted in from nearby gardens. Today the insect skimmed above a basket of oranges, then darted toward the fountain. Mira raised a hand to measure the gap, but a stream of shoppers blocked her path. A child’s balloon brushed her shoulder; her camera swung against her chest. The crowd pressed closer, and the butterfly slipped behind moving hats.

Only a splash of nature in all the stone kept Mira scanning the bright air. The butterfly reappeared, circling the fountain rim, which was polished by years of splashing water. She climbed onto a low bench, planning to tackle the height, yet the bench wobbled under uneven legs. Water hit her shoes, but she steadied herself and lifted the camera. The insect swooped again, then settled—unexpectedly—on the brim of her straw hat. Her eyes widened; she froze. The mirror of water beside her reflected the scene, so she tilted the lens toward the reflection and pressed the shutter once. The click echoed, wings lifted, and ripples settled.
