Luis and the Locked Lab-

English 원문
Luis paced across the cracked courtyard behind the science building, raindrops slipping from leaves onto his shoulders. An assignment demanded a fresh water sample, yet his collection bottle still waited inside the locked laboratory. Thin fog softened the dull bricks while electric hum from roof vents hovered like distant insects. A damp mineral smell drifted between broken tiles, and each drip striking metal echoed through the narrow passage. He had already spent an hour checking every pocket for the tiny master key. Time turned puddles into mirrors, reminding him of the hydrological cycle he once sketched in class.
Metal bins used for waste management stood right against the laboratory door, rusted wheels locking them in place. Luis pushed, his shoulders dipping, yet the row refused to roll more than a finger’s width. If he had remembered a crowbar, he would have solved the obstacle within minutes. Instead, he gathered fallen twigs, wedged them under a wheel, and stamped until metal grated over stone. The improvised lever barely shifted the first container, but strain reddened his ears and edged it aside. He began a thorough search beneath loose planks but found only spiders escaping the light. Finally the containers separated enough for him to squeeze sideways through the gap.
The corridor beyond smelled of old copper; fluorescent tubes hissed while footprints shone on diluted bleach. Inside the main room, benches were crowded with glass flasks, and one microscope had been left running overnight. Luis reached his shelf, yet the familiar bottle was gone, replaced by a neat report lying open. Blue ink still gleamed on the pages, indicating someone had tested the sample during the morning. He traced the results table; the data proved reliable, as every value matched his earlier predictions. A sudden clatter behind him revealed Professor Marin lifting a lid on a mobile analyzer cart. “Your collection arrived hours ago,” the professor said, gesturing toward the report, “I wanted to check if your figures were trustworthy.” Luis blinked, then laughed, water still dripping from his hair onto the smooth tiles. Fluorescent light rested on the silent report.
