Warm light touched the quiet street outside the door.

Leo entered Sunny Spoon, a pleasant restaurant near his school. He could smell sweet pancakes even before he sat down. He planned one clear goal: enjoy a big breakfast before class. The waiter set a tall glass jug of syrup on the edge. Leo reached for it, yet his elbow brushed a heavy menu. The menu slid, knocked the jug, and syrup flowed across the table. A fork rolled off, hit the floor, and a small plate followed. Chairs moved as nearby kids tried to avoid the sticky stream.

Leo jumped up, caught the plate, and stopped it from breaking. He then grabbed napkins and blocked the amber river of syrup. The waiter hurried back; Leo handed him the dripping jug carefully. The crew cleaned quickly, and calm returned to the morning room. The manager noticed Leo’s quick hands and kind help during the mess. She brought a new stack of pancakes with extra sweet berries. A small grateful card rested beside the fresh plate and shining spoon. Leo thanked her, finished the gift, and wiped the clear table. He pushed the glass door and stepped onto the street. His shoes tapped along the sunny path.
