Morning light filled the quiet classroom. Mia opened her bag and searched for her red pencil. The pencil hid somewhere, so she reached toward the high shelf. Her fingertips brushed a heavy textbook resting on the edge. A painted kite on the cover suggested a gentle daydream. The book slipped forward, knocked three notebooks, and started a tumble. Paper flew, chalk rolled, and a wooden ruler tapped the floor. One loose page slid down, showing a half written story.

Mia crouched, gathered the sliding books, and stacked them again. The page showed castles, clouds, and a small empty square. She drew with quick imagination and filled the square at once. A bright dragon gained wings, smoke, and tiny shining eyes. The school writer stepped in, collecting pages for the weekly wall. He lifted the page and paused at the new dragon. Mia finally saw her red pencil under the fallen ruler. She picked it up and closed the shelf.
