English 원문
Rain passed during dawn, leaving a dark patch of loose earth beside the cedar fence. Leo carried a tray of tiny marigold seedlings; he needed them rooted before the patch dried. A bright bar of sunlight already travelled over the bricks, and its warm edge crept toward the earth like a slow ruler. Each minute stole moisture, so every shrinking shadow counted as his second chance to place another pot. A faint smell of wet cedar mixed with the distant ring of a service bell. Between him and the patch, an overturned wheelbarrow blocked the narrow way; its metal rim balanced on a rock, forming a low arch. He pushed once on the handle, yet wet clay gripped the tire and kept it fixed.
The sunlight reached the first corner of the soil; the damp area lost its shine and cracked at the edges. A thin, hopeful gap showed under the arch. Leo saw two routes. The longer path looped around the shed over steady flagstones, a safer but slower line. The short route ducked beneath the arch; faster, yet one careless move could drop the tray. He bent low and chose speed. The rim brushed his shoulder, several leaves shook, and cold mud splashed across his shirt. One pot slid, bounced, and rolled open. He caught it, and the spill revealed an early orange bloom inside the tangle of roots. That flash of color marked a new beginning in the tray and hinted at a new opportunity for later seeds. He pressed the final plant into the cool soil. The emptied tray slid under the fence rail.
