English 원문
Hector heaved a hay bale onto a waiting wheelbarrow and pushed it toward the open stall. A piebald goat lingered near a feed bucket, drawn by the delicious smell of cracked corn mixed with sticky molasses. Across the aisle, an old wooden organizer full of grooming brushes rocked on a narrow shelf each time the horse in the next stall stamped its hoof. The soft thuds from the hoof kept coming, and a grain sack stored above the organizer began to slide, its cloth bottom inching forward with every tremor. Stripes of afternoon light cut across floating dust, and warm air carried a faint grass flavor that always clung to late-summer barns.
Hector knelt to adjust the bale stack; momentum from the first two bales caused the wheelbarrow to roll backward on the slightly sloped floor. At the same moment, the grain sack lost balance and dropped. It struck the organizer, bounced once, and met the moving wheelbarrow in mid-roll. The impact jerked the handle from Hector’s grip, toppled the bale stack, and scattered grain across the boards in a swift, crackling wave. Startled, the goat sprang sideways, bumped a rope halter hanging on a beam, and the halter swung like a slow pendulum above the mess. A thin trail of kernels began to develop from the torn sack to the far wall, and the goat returned immediately, head bobbing as it followed the new path. Hector laughed under his breath, then noticed a small leather journal wedged under the wheelbarrow’s wheel—a gift a traveling writer had tucked there during last week’s fair. He left the overturned bale where it lay and picked up the dusty journal instead. Above him, the halter kept swinging, sending short creaks into the warm rafters.
