English 원문
Most passengers stood in loose lines, but Dawn’s knees bounced against her suitcase near the sliding doors. Engine vibration climbed through the floor panels, shifting her weight from heel to toe. A glistening speck under the nearest bench caught her eye—the glass snowflake ornament her cousin had given her last winter. The tram’s paint had been rubbed dull by thousands of coats, and the handrail above showed patches where metal had re-emerged. Catching the next connection meant climbing the footbridge in three minutes, yet the tiny shape winked at her between two seat supports. As a precaution against the greasy floor, she slipped a crumpled travel glove over her right hand and crouched. The space was narrow; her shoulders compressed, and the strap of her bag dug into her back.
Her first reach scraped the ornament farther away. She pressed one palm on the cold floor for balance, then pulled her folded umbrella free from the side pocket and slid it forward like a slow lever. The tip nudged something soft; a small silver-gray creature—a lizard no longer than her thumb—darted out, its belly brushing her wrist before disappearing behind a heater grate. The sudden motion jolted her; her thighs tightened to keep from toppling. She reset the umbrella angle, hooked the snowflake’s ribbon, and drew it toward the light. In the aftermath, dust rings marked where the object had lain, and flecks of old paint clung to her glove. Doors opened; cool platform air rushed in. She rose, calves aching, and hurried across the footbridge just as the departure chime echoed upward.
At the same hour, on the quieter westbound platform, a janitor paused while mopping near the vending machines. Another silver lizard slipped from a cracked tile beside her bucket, and the wooden handle tapped twice against the floor tiles.
