English 원문
"Pass the blue bucket," Luke called. Delia swung the light bucket across the sandbox, grains rasping against its plastic walls. He crouched by a low sand mound, shoulders rounding as he packed damp edges with both palms. Light rain had begun. Small droplets slid down the tall metal slide, gathering into a thin stream that hit the rubber surface with springy bounces. Luke nodded toward the shining ribbon of water. They hoped to guide the flow around their fort like a moat. If the stream stayed high, their moat would overflow. Delia pressed her thumb against a shallow groove, widening it with steady wrist pressure. The trench curved toward the fort, yet the water kept veering off, pooling under the swing set and soaking their shoes.
Luke rose, joints stiff from kneeling, and jogged to the fountain beside the bench. He pushed the square metal button; the stream jumped outward, and, after he let go, the button stayed depressed. The button had been smeared with playground grime during the morning rush. A thoughtful crease formed on his brow, but he shrugged and returned. Behind him, the unattended fountain continued spilling, its growing sheet of water rushing downhill and joining the rain stream. The combined bounty raced along the rubber, crashed through their first trench, and carved a new notch into the sandbox wall. Sand collapsed, and tiny plastic figures toppled. A small tin shaped like a jewel box slid free from beneath the mound and spun in the current.
Delia plunged both hands into the slurry, fingers digging for leverage. She pressed the jewel box against a stone, then wedged the bucket sideways, forming a barrier. Luke sprinted back to the fountain, braced his shoulders, and yanked the button outward. The mechanism loosened, and the spray thinned to a drizzle. The cascade slowed, yet a ribbon still threaded past their fort and slipped through the playground mulch. Neither child noticed the tiny rubber anemone, once buried near the swings, drifting along that ribbon. It disappeared beneath the far bench where water kept migrating toward the grass beyond the path.
