Pole Against the Rolling Tins-

English 원문
"Is that stack meant to wobble like that?" Gwen pointed at a column of silver spice tins. They inched side-to-side under a striped awning. A speckled market cat crouched near the base, tail flicking. The tins had been stacked before dawn, each lid pressed firm against the next. Gwen stepped across the stone threshold of the entrance archway. She sifted through a crate of folded washcloths, searching for one with a pale blue trim. She tugged a corner, yet several cloths clung together. The bundle slid, brushed an adjacent box of polished eggplants, and nudged the lower tin. The column shifted like a tiny leaning tower, each cylinder turning on its rim. The cat’s whiskers twitched. The top tin tipped and landed on a steel-grey scoop. The scoop sprang forward, scattering coriander seeds across a translucent plastic sheet. Shoppers paused, gravel crunching beneath their shoes. The sudden noise startled a goose tied near the grain stall. The bird’s long neck rose with something almost regal in its posture just before it flapped toward the commotion.
The goose’s tether swept against a stack of shallow wooden trays holding silkworm cocoons partway through metamorphosis. One tray slid off the table, struck Gwen’s ankle, and spun across the lane, seeds firing away like grey confetti. More tins rocked. Before the column could collapse completely, the stallholder swung a bamboo pole between crates and the tower, blocking further drift. Gwen inhaled, then gently pressed her palm against the trembling tins. Their motion reduced to a slow oscillation. The bamboo pole wedged in place, coriander rolled into the gutter, and the market hum returned. The bamboo pole had been cut earlier from a nearby grove. Above the stall, a blue-grey awning still swayed. A single tin, freed earlier, continued to circle along the shallow lip of the weighing scale. Its reflective surface caught thin stripes of sunlight while it traced loop after loop beside the quiet washcloth bundle.
