English 원문
The projector screen hung white and ready, but a faint smear of damp shoeprints marked the carpet beneath it. Ada paused at the meeting-room doorway, her gaze tracing the uneven trail toward the power strip under the oval table. She shifted her laptop bag higher on her shoulder, the strap pressing against her collarbone. The usual harmony of keyboard taps and distant phone rings drifted in from the corridor. Ada bent, touching a toe to one print; moisture cooled the rubber sole. The outline looked recent. She crouched lower; from that angle the screen’s lower edge formed a pale silhouette against the ceiling lights, yet no person waited behind it. Curiosity tugged at her attention more than the weight of the laptop.
She had checked the booking board earlier, so the room was listed as empty for another ten minutes. Ada slid beneath the table, knees brushing the carpet, searching for the HDMI adapter that often migrated toward the socket maze. Her fingers met only cords. If the adapter lay elsewhere, the entire presentation would stall. She eased out, stood, and paced to the supply cabinet in the corridor; a gentle tug freed the drawer, but its compartments showed only staples and dusty batteries. Warm air from the nearby microwave carried an ardent coffee aroma, reminding her of the crowded break room. If the adapter appeared later, the connection would still fail with a wet socket, so she returned to inspect the prints themselves.
Using paper towels from the adjacent printer area, Ada knelt and pressed into the carpet, muscles tightening as she absorbed the water. A thin trickle led past the table leg to the wall, where the inverted water-cooler bottle wobbled in its stand; its seal leaked each time someone leaned for a cup. The prints were simply spreading puddles, not evidence of an early guest. She rotated the bottle half a turn; the drip slowed, and tension eased from her shoulders. Next, she located the missing adapter behind the projector foot, lifted it, and wiped the metal tip dry. Ada slid the adapter back into the drawer and stepped away from the table. A faint crescent of damp carpet remained under the screen, darker than the surrounding fibers.
