English 원문
Dina slid one knee onto the warm observation stone, spine curling forward as she balanced her sketchbook above the shrinking puddle. Fraser, the weekend art-club facilitator and her cousin, watched from a nearby bench while a sparrow shifted along the metal backrest. Dina’s goal was plain: capture the branching mineral pattern that rode the puddle’s bright evaporation rim before the water vanished. She bent closer, but the sun struck the surface and a white glare washed across her eyes. She steadied both elbows, let her neck sink lower, and traced one thin line; the glare flared again, wiping the shape from sight and leaving only a wobble of reflected sky.
She repositioned, toes braced wide for balance, and angled the pad so its edge cut across the light. The meniscus meandered inward like a lazy path, revealing dots of sediment that resembled tiny islands. Dina’s wrist moved carefully now, the pencil tip gliding in short, patient strokes. The glare returned, same as before, yet this time her lowered shoulders kept most of it away; partial outlines appeared, though corners blurred where sunlight still bounced. A decorative boulder at the courtyard edge threw a mild shadow that helped, and the square utility cover beside it warmed the air further, scenting it with hot metal.
Just as Dina lifted the pad for a clearer angle, a pigeon dropped beside the boulder. Its wings slapped the paving, kicking up a cloud of dust that drifted across the puddle. The dust broke the mirror surface, dimming the glare while also dulling every reflected line she had chased. Dina leaned back, legs tingling from the crouch, and marked the altered shapes anyway, eyes tracking the way grey particles spread over the remaining water. Behind her, the sparrow clicked once on the bench rail and fluttered off, leaving a dry mineral smell floating above the stones.
