Water Over Uneven Bowls-

English 원문
"Look, a scratch on the crate."
Josie ran her thumb along the shallow groove, the rough strands tugging at her skin like tiny reeds in a stream. The wooden crate supported a row of polished clay bowls, each rim still faintly warm from yesterday’s kiln. Beside the bowls, a tabletop fountain shaped like a stone courtyard well gurgled; cool water slid over its ridged lip and gathered in a glazed basin. Earlier, a brief dispute about whose turn it was to borrow the produce corner’s weighing scale had ended, so the lane finally moved again. A gull drifted overhead, its shadow gliding across striped awnings while the air held the grainy scent of ground pepper. Mud picked up during Josie’s dawn hiking path still clung to her boot soles, leaving sandy prints on the blue-grey paving. She lifted the crate’s front edge to slip a folded burlap strip under the damaged board, hoping to steady the display.
The added height balanced the bowls, yet the burlap lifted the fountain’s slight base, tilting the spout forward. Thin water splashed onto the nearest bowl, running down its smooth interior and pooling around the foot ring. Josie eased one bowl away, but that gap allowed the others to slide inward, clinking in a tight cluster. She had already straightened the line once; doing it again risked another spill. If she had removed the burlap now, the crate would sag and the first stack might topple. She paused, shoulders stiff, then chose a narrower answer: she pushed the fountain a finger’s width back and nudged each bowl sideways until their rims breathed apart. The fountain still leaned slightly, and water continued to mist the air, yet every bowl now touched the wood without pressure.
Cool spray from the fountain dotted her forearm, a reminder of the tilt she had accepted. She pressed the damp cloth edge against the crate, anchoring the uneven stack.
