English 원문
A soft hiss slipped from the produce misting nozzles, scattering thin droplets across the polished scale. Jasper held a mesh bag of green beans while his sister Faye kept the cart angled away from the queue. He aimed a finger at the glassy touch screen, but the damp surface sent the tip drifting to a seafood icon—an illustrated lanternfish with spiny fins. The machine printed a long, expensive label before he could stop it. He had tried to wipe the panel with his sleeve; the cloth only spread the moisture, and the wrong buttons kept lighting. If the screen had been dry, his fingertip would have landed with precision, yet the water turned each press into guesswork.
The queue lengthened, and the front wheel of their cart lodged in a narrow floor seam, refusing to pivot. Jasper waved the useless lanternfish label, hoping to persuade Faye to steady the cart while he tried again. Behind him, a shopper coughed, adding quiet pressure. A faint surplus of produce bags lay folded beside the scale; one corner already clung to the wet metal rail. Intuition nudged him toward that cling. He tore a strip from an extra bag and pressed the plastic against the slick screen. The dampness that had caused the slips now glued the strip into an interim stylus. With the broader, steadier patch, his next touch found the green-bean icon. One seafood code had already been chosen by mistake, but the new label emerged correct, neat, and far cheaper.
Faye rocked the cart free, and Jasper fixed the proper sticker onto the bag. They left the mis-printed lanternfish label curled in the bin beside the scale and wheeled toward the bakery aromas drifting through the cold air that pooled at floor level. Hours later, the mist nozzles had switched off for the night, and beads on the screen dried into pale rings. A thin strip of plastic—the interim stylus—clung to the corner of the frame, its edge lifting slightly from the glass.
