English 원문
The upstream pool was glass-smooth, but bright water between the two fixed rocks twisted into pale threads. Rosa knelt on the sunny bank, boots braced against pebbles, while Seth flicked stones downstream and watched concentric rings widen. Below a root-torn ledge, an ornate stack of silver shale edged a small midnight blue pocket beside the boulder. Lively water striders traced quick triangles across the calm shallows upstream, sometimes ignoring the noisy work on the stones. She slid one slab into the gap, feeling the current press, then another, and water slowed with a low hiss. Thin twigs continued to sail through the narrowing channel, bumping her knuckles before spinning away like small canoes. A rosette of foam curled where stone met stone, marking the progress better than any ruler. She had planned to seal the arm-span gap before creeping shadows cooled the water, and many steady pieces still waited nearby.
As the pile thinned, only wedge-shaped pieces remained, and each one caught the faster current then rolled sideways. Rosa pressed down hard, palms whitening, yet the water lifted the slab twice before silt clouded around her wrists. Water dripped from her cuffs while overflow showed how every fresh stone now raised the level against her. She eyed the gap and chose a smaller aim: block two-thirds, leaving a finger-wide tunnel for the creek. Seth tossed a last pebble, watched it sail through the hole, gently offered a silent thumbs-up, then stepped back. Rosa fitted two lighter shards side by side; their edges met snugly, shared weight holding them steady despite the rush. As she leaned back, the upstream surface formed a rosette, and a thin jet kept whispering through the center. Shadows brushed her boots, and the half-built dam caught afternoon light while water kept its silver thread running onward.
