The tray tipped; icy water sluiced over the granite, chased by wobbly flakes of fish scale. The thin stream hurried toward the tide ruler, threatening to seep beneath the clipboard pages. Intuition alone could not slow the water or the wind, so Zara studied what kept causing trouble: the cover's wide belly. She had tried to pull it away twice.
