The rim bends and sags. Orion slides the clay away. He lays bark under it. This work takes steady care. A pine needle rests nearby. Bark and cup agree in size. Across the water, a grown-up watches birds. A water strider lands on the cup. The light cup drifts downstream. Orion gasps and lifts a forked stick. The stick hooks the cup. Orion says, "Back here." Clay cup now sits on rock. Water no longer touches the cup.
