A wide maple leaf presses on glass. Lilac sits on the soft cushion. Grey rain taps a quick rhythm outside. The room is cool today. Water beads race down the window. A curious ripple grows around the leaf. A small van rolls along the street. Its wheels splash a bright puddle sideways. That puddle is very wide now. The spray reaches the low garden fence.

A striped kitten appears beside the fence. It shakes one paw at cold drops. The kitten darts under a bench. Now the maple leaf slides free slowly. Rain carries the leaf downward in silence. Lilac watches while the leaf flattens.
